Can you play with a club without a grip?

I just took off the grip to my 6 iron and started practicing with it and I actually hit better without the grip than with it. Weird I know. I just wondered if it is illegal or not say in tournament play to play with a club that has no grip.

  1. Get a grip (pun intended!)

its mere coincidence.  There is nothing about the lack of grip that is making you hitter better. OTher than possibly, you are actually holding the club differently because there is no grip.  Figure out what you are doing different, put a grip on it and rip it.

  2. no

  3. it had to be luck, i would go get it gripped before it goes flying out of your hands.   ouch.

  4. really weird and i don't reccommend it. It's probably just dumb luck for the time and will eventually turn ugly. I suppose it is legal, just awkward.

  5. its not illegal but pretty soon its not going to work for you so i recommend you put back the grip.

  6. Yes you can play without a grip. If you can believe this!!!!! Arnold Palmer came out with his own line of gripless clubs in the 1980's the  shaft was larger at the grip area and for an extra beneifit you got a white thin glove to help secure your grip. So if you do play without a grip i definately reccomend you use a glove.

  7. You can play with out a grip but I do not recommend it.  What will happen is that you will probably tear your fingers somewhat because of the constant gripping and re gripping of the club.

  8. There is no rule which states that a club is illegal if it has no grip. However , if you have a set of clibs and only the 6 iron is ungripped, sooner or later, this will affect the golf swing.
