Yes it happened to many ppl. Nevertheless, when U wake-up, U R still in a state of sleep , getting from one level to another, and Ur brain has "booted" some software which give U the sense of virtual reality.

sort of, i have dreamt my way out of a bad dream, it was weird because i was dreaming but could sort of control it by stopping something bad happening to me.
