Cicero "Roe" McKenzie

b. Jun 14 1880 in Oakdale, Morgan County, TN, USA

Spouse: Florence Johnson

Florence Johnson

b. Jul 1884 in TN, USA

Father: Henry Johnson (born about 1866 in TN, USA)

Background Info:

Florence and Cicero married in Meiggs County, TN in 1898. They had a son named George McKenzie (b. 1899 d. 1945) who married Edith Ella Pendarvis (b. 1904 d. 1980). George had a daughter named Shirley A. McKenzie.

I need Cicero "Roe" McKenzie's parents.

I need Florence's mother/Henry's wife.

If possible, Cicero and Florence's grandparents.

Thanks.

  1. *****The part of genealogy research that is fun is when you find the information after searching and searching.

I would suggest you start on familysearch.com and then go to ancestry.com.  Search census records for the Henry and it should list his wife and Florence.  Since there is no 1890 census, start w/1900.  If you don't have access to ancestry.com, go to your local library.  Most of them have access to either ancestry.com and/or heritagequest.com.  There is a lot of information on the internet, and it is there for the searching.  Cyndislist has oodles of it!

    Good luck in your search!

  2. The 1900 Meigs County Tennessee census has Cicero McKenzie, a wife and son George.  However, the wife is listed as "Glass" which I thought was kind of a funny first name.

Source Citation: Year: 1900; Census Place: Civil District 4, Meigs, Tennessee; Roll: T623 1589; Page: 7A; Enumeration District: 105.

    Household Members: Name Age

Cicero McKinzie 19  Born June 1880 married for 1 year born TN

Glass McKinzie 15   Born July 1884 married for 1 year born TN

George McKinzie Bon june 1899 in TN

All of their parents were born in Tennessee and  Cicero was a Farm laborer by profession.

Their marriage licence does appear ion Ancestry.com and they were indeed married on July 3, 1898; however, there were no witnesses or parent information on the certificate.

Cicero's World War I draft record does verify his date of birth as June 14, 1880

Henry, Florences father, was living with Roe and Flo in the 1910 census

Source Citation: Year: 1910; Census Place: Civil District 1, Roane, Tennessee; Roll: T624_1517; Page: 2A; Enumeration District: 145; Image: 47.

    Household Members: Name Age

    Roe McKenzie 29

    Florence McKenzie 26

    George McKenzie 10

    Henry McKenzie 8

    Dorothy McKenzie 3

    Henry Johnson 44

Notice that they also had another child, Dorothy.

Nailing down Cicero before 1900 is difficult, due to the 1890 census being destroyed and the 1880 lcensus likely being taken after the birth of Cicero.  I would suggest getting a death certificate for both he and Florence.  You can order them from the Vital Statistics office in the county that they passed in.  Good luck.
