  1. Treat them with respect and don't talk down to them as if they are children.  My mom hates it when she goes into a business and is met by a young person asking, "May I help you, Sweetie?"  She usually replies with, "Oh, you are a cute little thing but no, thank you.  I'll wait for my mother."

  6. Just spending time with them. Listen to them. They have so much to offer.They really want to spend time with someone.

  7. Yes, spend time with them. Conversate. Clean up around their home. Give them a pedicure.

  8. I helped my elderly step-mother put her boxes of pictures into a photo album, and make a collage for a bulletin board. When she had visitors, it gave them something to enjoy. I also had her tell me her memories, which I edited and organized into her life story, and included pictures within the text. When she passed on, I gave printed out copies to her relatives. These stories and pictures would have been lost if they had not been recorded.

  9. Spend time and listen to them.  My 91 year old grandmother is my best friend easy for me to say.

  11. stick them in a room put on a MATLOCK marathon, give them a crossword puzzle, and tray of prune juice and peaches..there u go, the happy old people kit..its all yours..hope i helped =)

  12. Let them talk about their past. It'll do them the world of good, they love to talk about their youth and the happy things that went on. And sometimes they talk about the war, it's good for them to talk about that cause there were no support/trauma groups back then.

  14. visit them, most elderly people are lonely, some love to tell the same stories over and over, some like to play cards, games, etc.. take them photos and stories about their family, or people they love

    call them often, let them know you miss them, if you can't visit... send them little inexpensive gifts and cards

    take them candies and snacks

  15. Work at a hospice to help understand them better.

    I'm doing that right now :]
