I am glad you are thinking of the environment in your buying habits.

For chocolate, look for organic and/or Fair Trade.  Chocolate is made from cocoa beans which are often grown in poor countries using pesticides that damage the environment and the farm workers.  The multinational traders also pay the farmers very poorly with the result that they and their workers remain in poverty whilst the companies get rich.

Fair Trade certification is given to brands that ensure the safety and economic well-being of the farmers and their workers.  Organic certification is given to brands that ensure growing and methods that avoid pesticides so that the environment and the workers benefit.

Green and Black is a brand that has both organic and Fair Trade certification and I can recommend it for taste too.  But be careful not to over-indulge.  That would be bad for your health and the environment.

You ask for other eco tips.  Local organic food is a good idea and for other things I recommend buying as little as possible, re-using things (like carrier bags) as much as possible and recycling as much as possible.  By doing so you will reduce pollution and set a good example for neighbours and for governments.  You will also find that life is more fun without the pressure of keeping up with the neighbours and that there is satisfaction in helping establish a sustainable world for the future.

One more thing.  Use walking and pedalling as much as possible and public transport when necessary.  Your health and fitness will benefit as well as the environment.

If you want tips on eco-living, google "ideal bite" and sign up for their newsletter. They send you a tip every day on some kind of eco-product and information to go with it.

As far as eco-products, do you have any natural food stores near you? Usually they carry things like biodegradeable soap, paper towels, and household items like that. There is bound to be a store in your city that carries this kind of stuff. Look for keywords like "sustainable", "organic", "natural", "fair trade", and stuff like that.

I shop at natural food stores and I'm able to find these kinds of products for my home, even natural cat food. The store I go to sells all of these, including "eco-chocolate". Cocoa camino is a good brand. Usually, food that is sold at these stores is both organic, and environmentally friendly. Good luck searching!
