  1. I was prescribed it to help me sleep. It really relaxes me and helps me to fall asleep, but it is very addicting and has tons of bad side effects beside weight gain. Do a search on it and you'll see what I'm talking about. I took it for 2 days then I decided to read up on it and I haven't taken it since.

  2. A psychiatrist wanted to put me on it as well  or some other kind of psychotropic med when I was in the hospital.  I asked him  to show me his desktop guide to pharmaceuticals and study the side effects and reactions of the different meds.  I refused to take Seroquel because of possible weight gain and possibility of causing diabetes.

(By the way, he wouldn't release me from the hospital until I would take one of the meds.  I opted for Zyprexa which did help but I ballooned in weight.)

With my current psychiatrist, we have found a good combination of meds that is working for me.  I was placed on Abilify and then added Lamictal.  The Abilify was slowing my thinking too much but the Lamictal is a wonder drug for me.  I am now off the Abilify and things are  fine.

Talk to you psychiatrist.  Make sure that he or she listens to you. Ask questions and express your feelings.  Some meds need to  build up in the system in order to be affective.  But they also must be stopped gradually to avoid  withdrawal complications.

God bless. Go with the grace of God.

  3. Seroquel is an anti-psychotic. It is designed to treat Schizophrenia and Bipolar Disorder, but because it's most active side effect is sedation it is often used as a sleep aid. You feel sedated in the morning, because you ARE sedated... Weight gain is not a common side effect of Seroquel. Side effects that I know of are nausea, anorexia, constipation, abdominal pain, and dry mouth. I wouldn't recommend taking Seroquel as a sleep aid, because it is a very addicting drug.
