  1. Tebs gave you an accurate answer.

If you feel back down the line you have a direct male ancestor that was granted a coat of arms, you should submit your family tree to the College of Arms in London and they will check to see if you are entitled to a coat of arms.  Actually only the oldest son is entitled to his father's coat of arms. The other sons are entitled to one with some differentiation.

Also, you have to understand that there might have been more than one man named Loughman, not all necessarily related, that were each granted their own coat of arms, all different.  No one peddler that sells them on the internet, at shopping malls, in airports, in magazines will have all of them. They don't need to in order to sell to people. The only time they will have more than one is if more than one man with the same surname from differernt national origins were granted one, then they will have one of each and there might have been several from one or more of the national origins.  Some men named Loughman are not entitled to one at all.

See the links under sources, one from the British College of Arms(they grant coats of arms and are the ultimate authority) and the other from the most pretigious genealogical organization in the U.S., The National Genealogical Society.  If this is a school project, please print off the 2 links and give them to your teacher.  I apologize if it isn't. It is just that we get a lot of students with assignments like this.

Edit: Also see link regarding Irish coats of arms

  2. Records don't show a record for a Loughman achievement with that spelling. If you go to a seller of family crests/arms they will probably tell you that it is a variant spelling of Loughnan or O'Loughnan. In the American heraldic records it is simply described as the crest, which is the triple towered castle, the full description coat of arms for Loughnan is: Loughnan (granted by Betham, Ulster, to Francis Loughnan, Esq., Lieut. 50th N. I. Madras, son of Andrew Loughnan, of London: descended from the Sept of O'Lacthnan). Vert a dexter hand couped apaumee, and in chief an arrow fessways argent. Crest: A castle triple-towered proper.

You can view and print it here: http://www.rushings.info/images/loughnan...

I really don't think it is a good idea to permanently mark yourself on the say so of the people here at Yahoo! Not even myself, I made a mistake just last year. I see some sellers of "family crests and coats of arms claiming that the name is a spelling variant of Laughlan.

  3. There is no such thing as a Loughman family crest, a crest is part of a coat of arms, the adornment on the helmet.

If there was a coat of arms awarded to a man who's name was Loughman, it belongs only to that man's descendants,

NOT to everyone by the name of Loughman.
