Try your best to not look like a tourist whenever you travel, it's like walking around with a huge sign that says something like "hey, I'm a dumbass foreigner, please rob me blind" Trains and the metro are pretty safe especially during the days.

And it really depends on what do you mean by safest.

This is a really good book. I suggest borrowing it from your local library and take it with you on your trip.

The Worst-Case Scenario Survival Handbook: Travel.

It has everything you need to know about safety and precautions while travelling. I find it very helpful. It's not a boring, long book filled with pages and pages of words. It has simple text and pictures too. It's categorized so it's very convinient. I guarentee you will learn a lot with this book!(oh yea, it also contains what you listed above!)
