  1. It provides raw materials for things (wood is used in many applications, from paper, to lumber to build homes, to furniture making, etc).

It clears land for agricultural uses.

It clears forests of old, dead highly flammable growth for new growth to appear.

It can clear a space for a road, or for power lines

Etc.  I am not advocating more cutting down, but its not hard to find positive outcomes

  2. Simple Answer: None.

Forests need carbon dioxide to survive. Humans need oxygen to survive. Humans provide the carbon dioxide. Trees provide the oxygen.

One without the other will surely cause the other to DIE. So far, humans are running the greater risk because wealthy people want their "rare front door" made from a tree that took 300 years to grow in a rain forest. Trees take hundreds of years to grow. Human live a "speck" of time on earth -- 60 to 70 years, perhaps?

No I'm not preaching for the Green Party, just stating a fact. There are NO good things from cutting down any plant.

  3. There are many "reasons" to cut down forests, but no positive effects. Absolutely none.

Forest fires are the result of human activity.

All the forests cut for purposes of clearing land, firewood, timber, dam projects and so on, should be replaced by planting trees elsewhere. But, even that cannot restore the ecological balance of a region.

  4. free paper :D

  5. Absolutely nothing unless you are the one making money out of it.

  6. It allows the plant life to restart in that area. also prevents forest fires.
