Can you pray for specific things and why do they not get answered?

Anyone who believes it God out there, please tell me what the deal is. I pray and pray and nothing. I am starting not to believe.

You get the same results from praying to god that you get praying to my cat.  They're more likely to be "granted" if they're reasonable.  "It won't rain today" than if they're unreasonable "I will inherit a flying car."

And you're right.  There isn't a magic Wish Granting Sky Daddy

A lot has to do with that for which you are praying and your motives. If you are praying purely for selfish motives then its probably not going to happen for you.

If you are practicing things that are not in harmony with God's will, that could hinder your prayers and finally sometimes the answer is "no".

It is depending on what you are praying for and why.

God isn't the magic jeannie you get to make wishes on and poof, you get it.

Your hearts desire should first and foremost be to do God's will.  That is the meaning of the hearts desire.  On top of that, of course God wants to give us things as well.  God answers all prayers, sometimes it is yes, sometimes it is no and sometimes it is wait.  God does things in his timing, not ours and he does them according to what HE thinks is best for us.  As your creator, you should be trusting him to give at his will, not your own.

Your statement sounds selfish and childish, if you don't an answer then you might not believe.  Did you consider at all the fact that he has already given the most valuable gift to give, eteranal life. But to those who are saved received this, those that ask Jesus for forgiveness and ask for him to lead their life.  Those that REPENT from their old ways is one who has really been saved.  

James said it best "Even Satan and the demons BELIEVE, and they tremble in fear"

James' Epistle  gives you an answer.

James 4:1  From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members?

2  Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.

3  Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.

4  Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.

5  Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?

6  But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.

I have prayed that way, and have gotten exactly what I have prayed for. So I am very careful that way. Sometimes the answer to prayer is no, and sometimes it is wait. If you don't get what you ask for, then is it the will of God for you. The other thing is sin can hinder prayer. So, if sin is not an issue (unforgiven sin), and you are praying according to the Word, then it isn't God's will. He has something better.

you can pray for anything you can pray for your hair to grow. But god listens to every prayer that is made and he answers them {ALL}! he might not give you the answer you want but he does answer it.

example you ask god remove you from a harmful situation you have gotten yourself in at school and someone wants to fight you. you wake up sick

so never believe he is not answering you. Somethings that are petty like i want my boyfriend back he  could simply just say no! He is not some wishing machine okay so he is not always gonna give you what you want

Your prayer did not fail to receive an answer, rather the answer was one you didn't want to hear, which is "No."
