Anyone out there good at predicting mile times? I ran the 800 meter in 3:17. I'm in a mile race tomorrow and want to know what I'm looking at. Thanks!

  1. well 3:17 doubled is 6:34.. so if you can manage a 3:17 for the mile, you should get that.

i mean.. you could add however many seconds you want to that.. but dont set your expectations too highly because you may become disappointed. for instance, aim for below 7 minutes.

  2. I run my 800 in 2:03 and yet my mile time is a 4:46, so I'm going to say you'll run like a 6:57, lol or a 7:17 depending if you go for it or you don't wanna hurt

  3. this is a very useful tool: the McMillan Running Calculator.  input a recent personal record, and it will give estimated records for any event from the 100m to the marathon.  it's not spot on accurate, but gives you a good window.

according to it you should run around a 7:16

    good luck!

  4. well if you double your 800 it will still be around 10 seconds more then that because it is longer. My 800 is 2:20 and my mile is 5:18. So yours will be close to 6:50 which isnt bad. Good Luck

  5. about a 7 to 7:20 mile

  6. Using the Macmillan Running Calculator 3:17 converts to a 7:17 mile, i.e. it is an equally good performance based on your 800m time.  You should probably be able to run anywhere from 7:15 to 7:20 depending on the conditions and how you are feeling.  If you run under 7:17 then your mile is better than your 800m.

  7. Well, since 3:17 doubled is 6:34 but you were running your fastest for 800 instead of pacing yourself for 1600. And you would get tired so i would predict about 6:45-50

  8. 7:13

  9. A 6:53
