Does the pinch hitter then become the DH or does the pinch hitter only get the one at-bat? How does it work?

  1. yes you can, if a dh is at bat, and you want to pinch hit him, that new player takes his spot for the reaminder of the game, unless pinched agian. So lets say edgar martinez is at bat for their pitcher, and they wanted to sub in willie bloomquist, then willie would be the dh for the game unless subbed again. i hope this helps

  2. yes

but he has the stay at the DH or else they lose the DH

    Example

    Cliff Floyd at DH

pinch hit for him with Willy Aybar

Aybar has to stay at DH......if he goes into the field the DH is gone

  3. HELLO what kind of question is that? OF COURSE YOU CAN

  4. "Washington Nationals" you are so wrong. once a pinch hitter goes in the game he remains in the game and plays the position of the guy he went in for. so put that in your juice box and suck it!

  5. A team can pinch hit for the DH and that person then becomes the "half a ball player" also known as a DH.  The only time that a team loses the DH is when the player in the DH slot takes the field defensively.  Otherwise, you can have a different player bat in that spot every time through the lineup if you have enough players on the bench.  The other way to lose the DH is to play in the National League where a player is required to play both defense and offense.  No one is allowed to be a weak fielding hitter only.  If you swing a bat, you must field a position with a glove--the way it would be!

  6. When any player is substituted into the lineup, he takes the place in the lineup of the player he replaces. So if someone goes in for the DH, the new player is the DH. There is no limit on how long a substitute can remain in the lineup. Any sub can remain in the lineup for the remainder of the game.

However, its common to see pinch hitters get only one at-bat. Often times they are put in late in a game. If the pinch hit for the pitcher (in the NL) they are usually taken out for an actual pitcher as soon as the team goes back to defense. Plus, since pinch hitters are used mostly near the end of the game, its common that after their one at-bat, game ends before the team goes all the way through the lineup.

However, there is no rule that limits how long a pinch hitter (or any subsitute) can stay in the lineup.

  7. Yes, you can pinch hit for the DH. That hitter is then the DH for the remainder of the game or if he is pinch hit for again during the game.

A pinch hitter only gets one at bat when he hits for the pitcher in the National League. Then the manager has to bring in another pitcher after that half inning is over to relieve the hitter who pinch hit.

  8. Its only a pitch hitter that way.  he be the dh

  9. Pinch Hitters get 1 at-bat and that at-bat is there only time playing in the entire games. Only Defensive Replacements can play for the rest of the game. If you have a hitter pinch hit for a pitcher... that pinch hitter will be on the mound so that team will have too bring someone in from the bullpen and pitch so that pinch hitter is out of the game.

  10. Yes - a pinch hitter can go in for a DH. The pinch hitter replaces the player in their position. If the pinch hitter goes in to a DH, he becomes the DH. If he goes in for a 3rd baseman, he becomes the 3rd baseman. However, in the National league (where pitchers bat) most teams use a pinch hitter when they will take out the pitcher the next inning, so they get a decent at-bat this inning, instead of a pitcher hitting. The pinch hitter is a substitute for the pitcher, then the team will substitute another pitcher for that pinch hitter when they go into the field.
