Can you pull a person out who is on the bottom of a pile of people, who are stuck in a doorway?

About every 2 or 3 years, you hear about people piling up and getting trapped in a doorway. If your an EMT or first responder, can you prevent anyone from dying; by pulling the person on the bottom out first?

Could you pull one of the persons stuck on the bottom of the pile out, how much force would be needed to accomplish the task.
