  4. most newer mother boards like amd socket am2 supports single core processors and dual core and most new intel socket 775 mother boards will support all three single dual and quad

  5. A dual core is still a single processor. Each motherboard has a cpu support page. Go to your motherboards support page and see what cpus you can run. Contrary to what some say, just because the cpu will fit in the socket on your board that doesn't mean the board will run that cpu. That depends on the board's chipset not the socket configuration.
