Can you put a governor on a new Kawasaki Ninja 250R??

I want to get a bike, but my mom won't let me get one unless the top speed is around 40-50 mph. I know the ninja 250 has a top speed of 100 so is there a governor you can put on it so it will only go 40-50? I'm planning on taking it off once I go to school but can it be done? Thanks!

  1. You can put something on the throttle cable, so the throttle can only be turned (you adjust how much it can turn) - then the bike can have only the power, speed and acceleration of a bike 1/2 it's size.

I've done it for pre-teen 1st time riders.

  2. Anything can be done if she is willing to put enough money into it.  She could make it into a torpedo for about the same cost, I suppose.

Maybe she will get you a Yamaha scooter, 125 cc of course.  She does under stand that putting some one out on a slow machine INCREASES the risk? The speed difference is dangerous, especially if you run across some idiot who got the finger from some squid, who ran away at high speed.  Because YOU Can't get away, stuck at 40-50 mph. It would be different if the scooter like that had more padding, or armor but if you give up mobility! What have you got left?

Never mind if you are blocking traffic on a busy street that you can only do 40 on, and there are a dozen cars all lined up, steaming, behind  you. Eventually someone will try to pass, a car will go headlong into him, and he'll take the emptiest piece of road available - YOU! because a head on with an oncoming car, and running over a scooter?  Not at all the same thing especially to him.

  3. Before you think about doing anything, on what roads will you be riding on going to school?

What speed limits are they?  What is the speed of normal traffic?

The reason I ask is if you restrict the speed to 40-50mph and you would need more power for passing and turning on into traffic, etc, then that speed restriction can be dangerous and inconvenient.

Ask your mom if she would be able to drive her car no faster than 40mph on 55mph roads where traffic is going 65mph and even faster.

If you just plan to go from your house down some 30mph side streets to school and no place else then just get a scooter.
