Can you put a jansport backpack in the washing machine and dryer?

i need to wash my backpack before school on Tuesday, its new but my parents smoke and it smells terrible. can i throw it in the washing machine with detergent and then in the dryer on a low heat? its a superbreak and it doesn't have the leather on the bottom.
