Can you put a mailbox on land without a house on it.

I own land and i haven't built on it yet can i put a mailbox on it and receive mail there without having a house there??

  1. The land has an address of 339 XXXX St. Isnt that considered an assigned address? Do I need to notify the post office that I am putting up a box or do I should I just put it up?
