  1. The spinnaker WAS/IS a sail carried by some tall ships depending on the rig and sail plan. It isn't quite the shape or form as the modern racing or cruising spinnaker, but it was flown to add sail area for more speed in lighter winds.

    'Tall ship' is not a particular type of boat, but is a collective term for many different types of rigs.


  2. Why they have so much sail area out>That light sail would blow out under the pressure and load with the sailboat not moving fast>

  3. If you have the money to do it, anythings possible.  I haven't seen anything like that though.

  4. Yes you can. It is a waste of manpower and money.  Tall ships have huge sail area already. Most are square rigged for running downwind.
