My son is 16 months old and Saturday evening were going to this event at the Zoo and mosquitoes are terrible right now where we live. He has a bug net that goes over his stroller but I know he'll want ot get out and walk some too. Can you put bug spray on a toddler that young? If not what can I use? Thanks!

  1. That a good question with the bug spray.  I don't know for sure if its ok or not.  But can tell you that if you attach a fabric softener sheet like SNUGGLE with fragrance the bugs don't like it and won't come near you.  I learned this camping, as  strange as it sounds.  Have fun at the zoo.

  2. not spray they sell special bug cream for young children

  3. i would try skin so soft by avon. it keeps bugs off well. i think it comes in a spray and a lotion.

  4. There are special bug sprays you can buy for children that have a much lower amount of deet than an adult spray has.  If you put an adult spray on a 16 month old, you could kill him.

  5. yes you can test a little spot first so you can see if he or she has a allergic reaction to it

  6. My pediatrician recommended the bug spray that's for families or kids.  I think Off and Cutter both have them, but I don't know which others.  He also recommended not to put it on their forearms so it doesn't get in his eyes.  I spray it on the backs of his legs and clothes and hair.

  7. I've always used bug spray since my daughter was 3 months old (she's now 2), with the approval of my pediatrician.  She just suggested we use the family brands (OFF has one) which are better for children's skin.  I spray it on her legs, shoulders / back and on her arms up to her elbows.  That seems to suffice.  We use it every day in the summer, and it hasn't caused any issues for us.
