Can you put hot chicken in fridge or do you have to let it cool

Chill the chicken as soon as possible and as rapidly as possible.  If you are eating dinner and the chicken is out for 30 minutes or so while you are eating that is plenty of time to cool.  Get it in the refrigerator.  The longer the chicken stays at room temperature the faster the bacteria grows. The growth of bacteria slows down once the temperature reaches 40.  

The refrigerator will work a little harder to cool down once you put a hot item in it so don't stack the chicken in one big bowl, spread it out in smaller containers.  It will cool faster this way, once it is cool you can if you wish put it all in one container.

You leave the chicken to cool on the counter because it takes more energy for your fridge to cool and hot chicken.  If you don't want to be green for a day, toss it in the fridge.

You must let it cool before putting in the fridge anything hot will cause the fridge temperature to rise and enable bacteria to multiply and therefore cause tummy upsets.

You can safely put it in the fridge but the hot chicken will cause the temp to rise inside the fridge, which is not a good thing.  If you have to, go ahead, but it's safer to wait a while.
