Question:

Can you put my glass jar's hardware back together?

I took apart my favorite almost-vintage glass jar to give it a good clean. Unfortunately, now I can't get the wire hardware back together again. One wire piece wraps around a groove on the lid. Another piece of wire wraps around a similar groove on the neck of the jar. The jar is supposed to clamp shut. Can anyone tell me how to put the wire hardware back on the jar the way it should be? Thank you.

Here are three pictures of the jar and wire hardware:

  1. I'm seeing this in my head, so it may not be right.

Part D goes on the jar, in the same orientation as it sits (it's right side up). Part A goes over the ends of D and pulls them together to clamp D in place.

Part C goes on the lid, in the same orientation as it sits (it also looks right side up). The little loops in the ends of C go over the little straight ends of D (that's the hinge for the lid). You'll have to either squeeze them together, or hook them from below, to get them both on. They should be squeezed together between the ends of D when C is assembled to D; notice how part A clamps D around the jar, and D clamps C around the lid.

The left end of B points up; it's what you hook over the projection on the right side of C. Toward the "B" is toward the jar. Hook the small rectangular part of B (the part pointing toward the "B") under the curly part on the right side of D.

I can't tell whether the whole thing should be turned so the latch is on the curved side, or the flatter face of the jar, but you probably remember that.

Let me know if it works!

  2. Don't u have another similar that u can copy from? there are some jars that are still available with a similar wire setup, i don't think there can be that many combonations, maybe see one that is closest, buy it then copy it.

  3. Does this picture help?  I've done the same thing and had to find someone to help me put it back together.
