Question:

Can you put "no parking" on former driveway?

A neighbor converted a garage to a family room. Plainly. It has a window, TV blaring behind it etc.

It still has a driveway in the pavement, but it's far too short to park in. The garage is only 5 feet from the street.

Parking is tight on the block, so he put a sign saying "NO PARKING" on this former garage door. Clearly he thinks he controls this "driveway". I say no, you can't reserve street parking.

What do you think? Can he tow people who park there?

  1. In most cities it's illegal to park where you are blocking a driveway.  The fact that the driveway is non-operational usually doesn't make any difference.  It is his driveway and he has to have access to it if he wants to use it.

  2. "Can an OWNER Restrict Parking in his Drive Way?" That's the Question Right? Sure It's His Drive Way. In his Drive Way? NO but he can call the Police and they will. On the Street in Front of the Drive Way, he can still call but since it's on the Street it's up to the Police on Sean.
