  1. Everio creates 2 files for each video clip: MOD file (Video-MPEG2-PS & Audio-Dolby Digital AC-3) & MOI file (info like date/time & aspect ratio). The .MOD file extension can be renamed to .MPG to view the footage; however, audio will not accompany the file. When split, clips can't be imported into editing application w/o first using video converter app–> to create a unified MPEG-2 file.

These video editing apps accept direct import of .MOD files w/o conversion: JVC supplied Cyberlink Power Director Xpress, Adobe Premiere Elements 4.0

But if wish free editing thru wmmaker, you'll have to sweat a little...

Check clarification on JVC .mod, together with Carol's helpful learning on MOD conversion using Prism.

  2. Windows movie maker supports these file types.

 Audio files: .aif, .aifc, .aiff .asf, .au, .mp2, .mp3, .mpa, .snd, .wav, and .wma

 Picture files: .bmp, .dib, .emf, .gif, .jfif, .jpe, .jpeg, .jpg, .png, .tif, .tiff, and .wmf

 Video files: .asf, .avi, .m1v, .mp2, .mp2v, .mpe, .mpeg, .mpg, .mpv2, .wm, and .wm
