  1. This is how the h**l you do it. Basically you need a iLink or firewire cable and a firewire port on your PC. It is the standard answer on the hundreds of resolved answers had you checked. Since I am not one to type a lot, my suggestion would be to peruse the Sony support site for your camera. On it are instructions and tutorials and live help if you need it.Follow the link below......

  2. If you have a mini dv (cassette) camcorder….

Your dv camcorder needs a firewire connection (ieee 1394) in order to download video, your PC probably did not come with a firewire port, so you will have to buy one and install it, since most computers (except possibly brand new) don't come with a firewire port, your camcorder did not come with a firewire cord so you have to purchase a cord too. Your camcorder did come with a USB cord and that is used for downloading stills from your camcorder.

If you have a mini dvd camcorder….

You will have to finalize your dvd in the camera and then put the dvd in your computer 's DVD burner (top loading only) and then you will have to convert the files (i downloaded handbrake file converter free) and import them into your editing program. Use the HELP feature in your editing program to learn about editing. Once you are ready to burn, your project will be burned to a different DVD and you can file the original away.

  3. Yes, it is possible to transfer videos from a camcorder to a PC.

  4. Connect the camcorder to the computer using a Firewire / i.Link / IEEE-1394 connection (three names for the same thing*).

The camcorder probably came with the cable you will need.

If you have a very new PC or laptop, or a fairly recent Mac, you may find that your computer already has a Firewire input.

If you don't have a Firewire input on your computer, you will need a Firewire card (or USB 2 - to - Firewire adapter).  You'll have to go to a computer shop for the PC card, but the  USB adapter is fairly easy to find (Best Buy will have it).

*Sony calls it i.Link, most other brands call it Firewire (Apple was first), and others call it by its official designation IEEE-1394 (or IEEE-1394a).

  5. The software you've already got will be for transferring stills via USB.  Since it's a MiniDV camcorder you need to transfer the video via firewire.  If your PC hasn't already got one you'll need to install a firewire card.  They're cheap, easy to install and readily available.  You'll also need a firewire cable.

With the camcorder connected and switched to play, you can capture your video using Windows Movie Maker or any other editor.

  6. firewire or USB.

if you have windows movie maker and option will pop up as soon as you connect your camera to the computer. just choose that program and the rest is easy.
