i was wondering if you can keep deer for their meat (sorta like cattle are kept) you'd have to have special fencing/area for the deer(s) but is it allowed for a farm to farm deer? and if anyone has kept a deer (i've seen 2 places in my area, but i dont know why they keep them, i have my ideas, but i cant accuse/say what those deer are for) what are some tips for keeping a deer?

thanks!

  1. People raise deer for meat. You'll have to check local ordinances to see if it's allowed in your area. Otherwise, I'd imagine they aren't much different from goats to take care of.

  2. Yes its legal......

But it takes all the fun outta hunting one.

  3. I raise deer. Open range.

  4. It's done in Germany. I used to go to the farm and buy venison all the time while stationed in Frankfurt A/M.

Check with state laws. Raising wild game animals for meat production is not allowed in many states.

  5. Depends on where but it is not usually legal because deer are considered game therefore property of the State.  At least that is how it is in Texas.

  6. Yes.  But the deer are not made to live in pens and get diseases.  The diseases often get transfered to the wild herd, then massive culls are required.
