Can you read in your dreams?

When I'm dreaming, if I try to read something-- letter, book, whatever-- it either wakes me up or makes me realize I'm dreaming, because I can't read it. I know there's stuff written there, but I can't get it to form words. It's so weird--somehow I realize that I can't know what this page says because I've never read it in real life. I'm just wondering if that's a common thing or if other people read just fine.

  1. Yes I can read in my dream ; about your dream ; I think you are living a difficult situation and you looking for a answer

  2. if you know that you are in a dream, you are lucid. if you are lucid, WAKE UP!!!! you need to wake up from lucid dream, because anything you think WILL happen. and this means ANYTHING. lucid dreams are worse than nightmares if they get out of control. and if a lucid dream gets out of control, most likely, you can't get out. so don't take the risk. wake up before something bad happens.

and about the original question, i have read in a dream once. so yes.

  3. That is how you know you are dreaming.  This is a good way to be ready to begin something called Lucid dreaming.  When you are dreaming and realize that you are you can change the dream.

As to why we can't read in a dream there are many theories.  My favorite is that writing is a human construct that the brain only recognizes when we are conscious because it takes conscious thought to learn and recognize words.
