Can you read on the month of ramadan?

i like reading novels and have many to read because of school.but since ramadan is the month of sacrifice, i am wondering if reading novels is allowed?

  1. During the month of Ramadan it is better to read the Qur'an than any other book, the same applies for TV and music - watch the Islam channel or listen to a Recitation.

Reading novels especially good and well written novels and books is a good talent if it is used in the right way, i.e. without neglecting one's duties such as performing prayer in time or any other necessity. Moderation is good in every thing. If you see that you are excessively reading novels and books and this makes you ignore other more urgent duties and you cannot control that, then you may seek the help of a professional counseling.

    Imaginative narratives which has no basis in fact (i.e. novel) is Haraam !
