Can you really achieve a dream of being in a successful rock band?

what does it take?

its been on my mind every day since last year.

nothing famous

just a dream of playing music in front of people that will appreciate it..but pretty big crowds as well..

is anyone in a successful rock band and would like to share how they did it? any tips advice?

Well I'm sure the members of the greatest bands of all time didn't know that's what was going to happen.

You could get big crowds just by playing cover songs or you have to come up with new, fresh, original music. OR get signed by some big record company and do whatever they tell you.

Looking at the bands that have made it big these past few years, u can clearly see , its not a matter of who has more talent, but of who is better looking or who can get the most attention. Talent is the last thing people are looking for nowadays and thats why we have crappy music. My advice to you is do us a favor and  come up with something totally new so u dont have to follow anyone elses example.

most mainstream bands are c**p and disappear in a few years. most good bands nowadays aren't well known but play well and have a dedicated fanbase. however, from time to time there exists bands that are actually able to break into a lot of people's heads with skills and raw talent. One of those bands is Iron Maiden but they're from a different time and place. But who says it can't happen again

It's all about work and putting yourself in the right spot.  It's not as much luck as one might think.  Make your self seen and heard, but you better have something; either a look or an act or talent, or songwriting or something that makes you different.

KISS is a great example of this, as is Marilyn Manson, and a world of others.

Loads and Loads of advertisement the more ppl hear about a band the more they wanna check it out, so spread the word

Play at popular hang out places such as bars or little concert venues

Free cds and stuff I know that if someone gives me a free cd I'm likely to listen to it and who knows it might get into the hands of the right people
