People tell me that I'm a good writer. Is there really such thing as a bad writer though? Writing isn't hard. So it's really not that much of a talent, is it?

  1. Yes--a person can really be a bad writer. I've read plenty of bad writing. Some people just have no skill for putting together a coherent sentence, telling a story, or explaining a concept. They might be brilliant in other ways, but they couldn't write their way out of a paper bag.

There are different kinds of intelligences--mechanical, verbal, analytical, etc. Not everyone has the right combination of these to be able to write well.

If you really are a good writer, you should value your talent more than you seem to. It's a gift.

  2. such thing as?

    such a thing as?

  3. The ability to write isn't a talent; the ability to write correctly (i.e. good grammar, punctuation, etc.) is a skill. But the ablilty to write well- with inspiration, cleverness, and that little something that pulls the reader in- that's a talent. So while you may be good at writing, you may not be a truly good writer; does this make sense?

  4. bad writing can be regarded as anything including grammatical disasters (which can be corrected, that's why god made editors) but i consider a bad writer one who lacks insight into the human condition..you can write volumes of prose with plot intricacies and action and romance, but if there is no insight into why we are and why we do what we do, then its all just words on paper...

  5. actually writing is a talent. you have to know how to make th poem good or the story good so someone will want to read it. there are many people who write and think there great but no publishing company will publish them. these people if they want to be published self publish themselves and usually cant sell the book to anyone but friends and family. iv read published authors as well that are terrible. at least they were in my opinion terrible. i do not see how those people got published so yes writing is a talent in my eyes

  6. There are two components to the art of writing. You have to become familiar with the mechanics or the technical aspects, but, you also have to have the ability to bring words to life,to create a world full of richly drawn, believable characters an situations. It's not all fun and games either and if you think it is,you're kidding yourself. It is aftera ll is said and one,a talent therefore, how unwise do you think it is to treat it so casually?

  7. Yes. It can be boring , repetitve, etc.  Elizabeth Peter's Egyptian mystery books are awful.

  8. what you may have is a gift. it is all interpretive anyway. my hubby loves horrors and I prefer science fantasy. and most people can draw... is it any good? that is best let up to interpretation as well. one man's _______ is another man's________.
