Question:

Can you really get electrocuted while in the shower?

Because according to my family you can. I'm not supposed to take a shower when there's a storm near us.

I can't seem to grasp how lightning could possibly hurt me while I'm in the shower. Anyone know the truth about this?

  1. Yes, you can be electrocuted in the shower or while on the phone if a lightning bolt strikes your house. The chances of it happening are awfully slim, but better safe than sorry.

  2. Mythbusters did this and confirmed that you could actually die from a lightning strike while i nthe shower.

Water does does allow electricity to flow, especially a large current like lightning. Your pips in your house are grounded, and the lightning is looking for the fastest way to ground, to discharge. So, if it hit your house, it can go through the pipes and you could be part of the circuit for the electricity to travel.

The odds of that happen are slim. I do take showers while ts thunderstorming, but oly if I really have to.

  3. yes, and you also can be hit by a meteor in the shower :)
