  1. I did a lot of the paperwork myself, such as I typed out the questions and answers to most of the questions they generally ask, such as, what my goals of adoption were, my parenting ideas for the child I was adopting, legal addresses, names, etc, of all the parties involved, (including the birth parents who were temporarily living with me).  I gave that to the worker who came to the house, she interviewed me for about an hour, looked around the house (I had a floor plan of the home drawn, with measurements of each room, which she did confirm the nursery's measurements, and one other room to make sure I was accurate).   I also had a list of assetts, income, expenses, etc, which I had copies of my mortgage papers, utility bills, etc, ready for her to view when she got here.  It saved a lot of work of stuff she would normally have to mail off for, and saved me money, because by being prepared, she didn't have to spend a lot of time doing the work, and my private home study was only $300.00.  I also had already gotten copies of my fingerprints done at the sheriff's office, and had the forms signed and notarized in order to request the criminal reports she needed.  It took me a lot of work, but saved me a fortune, which is going into raising my son, whose adoption was final a few hours ago, finally!!!!

  2. I've never heard of this. While Paps have much paperwork to gather they still have go through a series of personal interviews and visits conducted by a licensed social worker who ultimately has the authority to approve or disapprove the home study.

  3. I think, even if you were able to get the list of what's required for a home study in your state, you'd still have to pay an agency who's licensed in your state to sign off on it. So if the point is to save money, I don't think you would!

  4. No - nobody would accept it

As for getting a company to "sign off" on your self-prepared homestudy ?? That would cost the company its license and the social worker or lawyer his/her license to practice - it is  much cheaper to just do the study legitimately.
