I'd like to get at least 25 mpg CITY but not get crushed like an accordian in case of a crash. Yeah, this is an open ended question, but I'd appreciate your thoughts on it.

  1. toyota corolla

  2. Prius' don't fair very well in accidents.  Extremely expensive to repair and don't absorb the force of a crash very well.  Our previous Prius got broadsided by a box truck and I'm lucky to be alive.  It did over $16,000 in damage and they didn't total the car.  After that scary incident, we had to get rid of it once it was "fixed".  Being "green" doesn't mean much if it kills you.

Typical Honda/Toyota aside from the hybrids are a good way to go.  The Corolla is very fuel effecient ... Consumer Reports has it at 23 MPG city which is 92% of your expectation.  With a 40 MPG on the highway and 32 MPG overall, it's still pretty good.  The July 08 Consumer Reports is a good place to start your research.

  3. Well i would recommend the Toyota Prius gets very good gas mileage and im sure its crashworthy besides the car is worth it.

  4. Either Honda or Toyota but dont get a hybrid, too expensive and you will never get your money back on it unless you keep it for 10 years.
