  2. Hi.  I started a charity last year for children.  My program gives a backpack to children that are being placed into foster care.  As they are removed from their home the social worker gives them one of my packs.  I am located in Michigan.  In my packs I give them a blanket, stuffed animal, book, night light, toothbrush, toothpaste and shampoo/soap.  Most of these children are removed from abusive homes and they are removed by strangers and then taken to live with strangers.  They don't get to take any belongings with them.  It broke my heart and I knew I had to do something.  My hope is that my packs can give them a small feeling of comfort and security at a time that they are feeling none.  This way they also don't have to feel uncomfortable asking their new foster parents for items, they already have their own to start off with.  Please check out my website  www.sleeptightfoundation.org.  I would love and greatly appreciate it if you wanted to donate to my charity.  There are some really great ones out there.  You have a big decision in front of you.  Good luck with your event and good for you for doing something that helps out others!!

  3. Compassion International supports children in underdeveloped countries and provides education, food, support and medical help.  You can even choose your own child.

  4. If you choose one there in Brisbane, you need to research yourself -- make a list of children's charities and visit their web sites. Do they provide clear, complete information about what it is they do and what their accomplishments have been, or do they have desperate pleas for money? Do they have complete information about their finances? Do they involve volunteers? How many children do they serve?

If you want to give to an international organization, I recommend CARE International. They are doing outstanding things regarding women and children.

  5. I dont know any specific organization, but if I may give you some tips as to which kind of organization you should choose:

-they make sure the money gets to the people in need, not to the government. if its just sent to the govt, chances of it reaching those in need are very slim.

-they go places and get their hands dirty, get involved personally in helping others

-they dont just give something to the children and then leave. helping them getting an education would be miles better. you know the saying "a a man a fish and he can eat for a day. give him a fishing rod and he can feed himself for life". or something like that.

hope these'll help you to pick. good luck!
