  1. danharley has a good answer.  There are many quest houses and small hotels in SaiGon that are very reasonable in price.  We always stay at my wifes Uncles home when we visit in the summer.  cheers c

  2. Fun area of SGN for a foreigner would be in the "Khu Tay Ba Lo' Area, which is loacted in the first district (Quan.1) - To be more precise, on the corner of Nguyen Thi Nghia and Pham Ngu Lao.

There are many cheap hotels which is more than satifcatory for you! There is an alleyway called "Hem Chua An Lac". May I reccomend a hotel in there called: Sao Nam hotel - (Southern Star hotel), rooms there range from 15-25 dollars and it was recently built in 2005, so everything is extremely sanitised. Add. 175/5 Pham Ngu Lao Q.1 HCMC -Great hotel for one on budget, or looking for a CLEAN stay!

  3. Near the conner of De Tham and Bui Vien , 1st district.

  4. http://www.kimdohotel.com/

this hotel is clean and safe... all charges or expenses are pretty affordable as compared to those in 5 stars hotel.

situated next to the tax department shopping centre. less than 15mins walk to the famous tourist attraction Ben Thanh Market.  less than 10 mins walk to Saigon Square (for more shopping).  nearby there are lots of money changer, restaurants and some of small shops selling local products.  and also less than 15 mins walk to the saigon river where u can do some travelling along the river (not very sure) or even dine at the restaurant built in the ship.  have fun when u are in HCMC  but beware of snatch thief.

  5. Go to the front of Ben Thanh Market (the side where the statue of the dude on the horse is), look towards Ben Thanh Market and then look up. One of those tall hotel buildings a block or so behind Ben Thanh Market is one of my wife’s aunt’s hotels. It’s clean, reasonably priced and in a great location. The receptionist is cute and speaks English pretty well.

For the life of me, I can’t remember the name of the hotel (my wife’s going to kill me if she found out that I forgot). Even if you pick a different hotel, most of the one or two star hotels around Ben Thanh Market will be in pretty good shape and relatively reasonable in price.

If you want little better prices, then you should look at staying in District 3. A short walk from District 1 and where most of the action is, but prices are very reasonable.

    Have fun!
