I am looking for a good mystery, usually set in an old mansion and that inspires the claim "the butler did it". If it is set in Victorian times, that would be perfect but it is not mandatory. Please do not suggest anything by Agatha Christie or stories about Mr. Sherlock Holmes. I have read enough of both to hold me for a while and I haven't really found what I am looking for in those books though I do enjoy them. If you are familiar with the movie (based on the board game) Clue, I am looking for the kind of book that might have inspired it although with a more serious tone than the movie. If you are familiar with M*A*S*H (the TV show), the fictional novel "The Rooster Crowed At Midnight" that BJ received and shared with the camp is exactly the type of thing I am looking. So, what do you recommend?

  1. Life As We Knew It [ a sample of an audio book at http://www.freewebs.com/help-neopets/]

  2. You might like Charles Dickens's The Mystery of Edwin Drood, which is set in the Victorian era. I warn you, though, Dickens did not finish it and the ending is truly a mystery.

  3. The Count of Monte Cristo.
