Can you recommend a good camcorder for filming outdoors (hiking, expeditions, camping, etc.)?

I am planning to film outdoors (hiking, expeditions, camping, etc.) for long periods of time. That means good battery time, lots of capacity and lightweight.

I also want it to be able to support Camcorder Adapters (Lenses), because I am planning to film 3D video:

My budget is close to US$1,000

  1. The only camcorders - of which I am aware - that support decent lenses (and are at or under your price target) are the Sony HDR-HC7 and HC9... and the Canon HC20 and HV30.

No camcorder comes with a good battery in the box - get a couple of high capacity rechargeable batteries - and if you are going to be in the field for a long time, get a little solar battery charger appropriately sized for the batteries you get.

While you are using one battery in the camcorder and capturing daytime video, the other is charging because the solar charger is on the outside of your backpack soaking up sunlight.
