Mother will be going on holiday next month and I want to get her a decent camera so she can take some snaps. She has never used a digital camera before so I'm looking for something that's easy to use and lightweight.

Can you guys recommend anything?

  1. I bought my camera three years ago, a Canon PowerShot, and I am really happy with it. It is easy to operate, the pictures are great, and I am very likely to upgrade with a newer model of the PowerShot series - well, we'll see. However, I must say that it is not really lightweight... My friend owns a new Nikon Coolpix S550 and this camera is great and lightweight. My friend takes amazing pictures with it.

What I generally recommend is visiting some of the numerous photography websites. Most of them have forums with threads such as “What digital camera should I buy,” and offer advise. I think this can help a lot to get a clearer picture. Try www.dpreview.com or www.photographyreview.com; there is an excellent digital camera forum. www.steves-digicams.com is also a good site with helpful consumer reviews. www.ecoustics.com also has a good digital camera forum with great shopping advice. A site that I absolutely love for narrowing down my choices is www.myproductadvisor.com. www.imaging-resource.com is another good site and offers good consumer reviews.

  2. teach her how to use a digital one...argos are having their sales now and there is samsung 10 megapixel camera for £79.99

  3. I have a Kodak Easy share & I love it. It is very easy to use.  I have had mine about 2 years and haven't ever had any problems with it. It comes with a kodak software cd so she can crop her photos once she moves them onto her computer. It is really neat, you can change photos to black & white, reduce red eye, zoom in, pretty much anything you can think of. I would suggest getting her lithium batteries, because digital cameras go through regular batteries really fast. She might also like some additional memory. I got a card that plugs right into the camera that lets me hold hundreds of pictures and it was only about $15 or $20. I absolutly love my camera, my sister and a few of my friends have bought Kodaks just because they are so easy to use. It also does short videos.

  4. I have the polaroid  i631 and it is great really light takes great pics and my first digital camera very easty to use. I would suggest getting this one for her, I bought mine at a local Target here in cali but I am sure other places carry them as well. Good luck

  5. kodak easy share

  6. The all time winner bargain compact digital camera is the Canon 7.1 megapixel PowerShot SD1000 [not the IS] 7.1 with an added 2- gig memory card which when set in the manual mode for "Vivid" colors and videos at 30 fps in 320 dpi format provides killer images and videos. It currently sells for $160 at Sears:
