Can you recommend a good gas powered chainsaw?

I would like to stay under $200 which seems reasonable based on both Lowe's and Home Depot's websites. I currently own an electric chainsaw and it is time to upgrade. Any opinions are appreciated!

  1. Consider an electric. You can get a 16" model, if reqd. Starts every time.

  2. It depends on how much cutting you are going to do. Take into consideration how big a job will be also. Do you need a 14" blade or a 20" blade to get your jobs done? A Stihl or a Husgaverna would be great but a little pricey. I have a Craftsman 20" that takes care of all I need to do. I have a lot of trees. If you are using it for commercial then go with the better brands, if just homeowner then stick with a medium brand. Craftsman and Poulan are built the same. You might want to check out Consumer reports on-line to get a better idea. Good luck.

  3. There is a 16 inch Echo chain saw on clearance at Home Depot for $94 which sold originally for $269. You will have to call the local Home Depots in your area to see if there are any left.

The model number is likely CS-370-16C which is the one seen here http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stor...

  4. If you can get your hands on a Stihl chainsaw it's the best by far.  But your budget will probably only buy a poulan.  Poulan is OK but it's nothing compared to a Stihl.

Any gas saw will be better than an electric chainsaw.  An electric saw will not go as fast and is a joke.
