I need to keep my hair dry when swimming. I hate to go buy something that won't work. Do swim caps really work? Is there a good brand? Other options?

  1. I'm a competitive swimmer so I have to use caps, and they may not keep your hair completely dry, but they will help you from getting more chlorine and water in your hair.  I also have longer hair and I find that silicone caps won't rip as easily, but they are more expensive.  There are also latex caps that aren't as expensive but tend to rip or split more.  Another type I've never used are Lycra caps or a sort of cloth-like material, but like I said I haven't used them so I don't know how they would work for you.  I use speedo silicone caps but the brands are pretty much similar in price and quality.

  2. Me, personally, I use a Speedo or Nike.

Actually, there's this Nike swim cap that's made out of silicone. Pretty heavy, if you ask me.

  3. Like stated above, swim caps are not meant to keep your hair dry. They are meant to help streamline and cut down on resistance/drag while competiting. They do protect your hair from excess water and chlorine. So, no swim cap out there is going to keep your hair "dry".

I use Speedo swim caps. Just the brand Ive always used. I like latex, but you should try silicone if you arent used to caps. They dont pull your hair out like silicone does.

  4. Swim caps don't keep your hair dry while swimming. The only way to prevent your hair from getting wet while swimming is to not put your head under water. Swim caps do work for helping to keep your hair back, they help with a good streamline, and they do help prevent some damage from the chlorine, but they do not, and aren't suppose to keep your hair dry. Silicone swim caps are the best because they don't pull your hair as much, and they are much easier to get on. The silicone ones are much better than the Lycra or the latex ones.

  5. I would say a thick swimming cap! And yes swimming caps do keep your hair farly dry I would say moist!
