Maybe in the $200 price range. Is that too cheap? I don't need anything spectacular, but I don't want to pay for c**p, either. Thanks!

  1. Att that price range, you will be stuck with c**p. At that price range, your only choices will be low end all in one systems (Where the DVD player is built into the receiver), or the cheapest of liquidation all in a box systems, where there is a bargain basement receiver, and a very cheap set of speakers.

You would do far better to save up some more cash, and get your price range up to about $500. For that kind of cash, you could get the Polk 6750 set of 5.1 speakers (List price of $600, selling for about $240-$250, plus some shipping), and a solid 5.1 receiver from a brand such as Onkyo, Yahama, or Pioneer. In this area, Sony is not good in HT, and Bose is hugely overpriced and is even further out of your budget range than even the gear I am suggesting.

You can get loads of good buying choices for both receivers and speakers on amazon.com, and the best part is that the product pages will include buyer's feedback comments, so you can really get a feel for how each item works for those who bought it.

  2. believe or not magnavox has a home theatre in that price range that I rate 4.5 out 5

  3. Sony or Bose. Think you will have to spend more than $200.

  4. Check out this site

This site has an array of comprehensive step by step guides to getting the right setup and getting the most out of it and you can also select one of the editors recommended ready set ups, all according to different budgets.

    hope this helps out
