  1. Any model Motorola offers that has hands-free capability.  Don't fall for the 5 mile vs. 12 mile range, as the curvature of the earth won't allow the radios to talk 12 miles apart (unless one or both are on top of mountains).

  2. Preferably? What, you are considering a system with wires? That might prove to be problematic.

Joking aside, what are known as PMR446 radios are available in the UK and have a range of between one and three miles. I think that should be more than adequate. You can identify them by the fact that they will have 8 channels and 38 subchannels.

  3. There are a few that might work for you, but some considerations you might want to make when deciding which radio is right for you would be battery life, rechargeable batteries & charger, range of reception, portability (does it come with a clip or do you need to buy a f***y pack?), and the number of operating channels. Most of the two-way radios you'll find at a department store will probably work fine, but if you want to get your money's worth, I'd look at radios by Midland, Uniden, or Cobra, and steer clear of  Motorola.
