  1. First of all, try the word "opening".

If you are looking for a database of all openings, try ChessBase, by ChessBase GMBH. It's a program that is a database of games in it and, incidentally, comes with a gigantic opening key, where you can find most all mainstream openings. If you're looking for books, I'd recommend Nick deFirmian's "Modern Chess Openings", which is a large, four-inch thick book that classifies all of the major chess openings.

  3. The term I think you are looking for is "opening" or maybe beginner.

    The site below

is not half bad.  (...and it is free.)

  4. Chessmaster has a very good opening moves database that will let you practice whatever opening you want.

  5. I would first find what opening you wanted to study and then ask the question again.

Most introduction to chess books will touch on opening principals that should always be observed. I like Yasser Seirawans series.

Today I mostly play the french and I prefer watsons book: Play the French.
