  1. I do not know them personally but here is a site listing some selected campsites in Vendée:

If you are really looking for peace and quiet, you should select "camping à la ferme", the smaller campsites located on farms, and avoid the coastal ones. The 3rd and 4th ones on the list are farm campsites.

  2. There is a lovely campsite just outside Saumur which is owned and run by an organisation catering for people with learning difficulties.  It is called "Chantepie" which I think means "Magpie."  It is set high above the Loire with lovely views across it. The facilities are excellent (including a Crazy Gold course which is vertical - well, it was when I used it!!)

The locality offers much to see: The caves where the  famous Saumur sparkling wine (Akermann) is produced, the Riding School. the Chateau, the mushroom growing caves and within a short drive all the best chateaux of the Loire Valley.

Another site we like is a municipal one on the side of the river opposite the castle in Chinon.  It's a very simple cheap site but wandering around Chinon, choosing a little restaurant for an evening meal, takes some beating!!

If you intend visiting the Vendee you should try to find a site within a reasonable distance of le Puy de Fou the most spectacular visitor attraction in the area. During the day it is a brilliant history theme-park of the highest quality and, on certain evenings during the summer, the people of 9 local villagers put on the an absolutely superb "son et lumiere" altho' to call it such is an understatement. (check its website, book in advance, including buying headphones for translation and look forward to it). We used a site called  Camping Caravaning Eden at  La Boissiere-de-Montaigu. We would not recommend it for a long stay but it's OK for 2/3 nights so you can visit le Puy de Fou.
