  1. I loved reading Roald Dahl books as a kid, so maybe he'd like them too. As it goes for picture books, Robert Munch is a great kids author!

  2. When I was a kid I LOVED Stig of the dump. Absolute classic

  3. The Little House on the Prairie series, especially Farmer Boy which is written about a boy.  My almost-7-year-old enjoys hearing me read aloud from these, and also reads these himself.

Science-type why and how books are also well-liked by my son.

Personally, I don't see tons of value in reading just for the sake of reading.  So, we don't have books that are purely entertainment with no other redeeming value (whether that's educational, well-written classic, etc).

  4. I agree on the Hardy Boys. I started reading them about that time. however, a lot of children are not that advanced at that age.

I prefer to stick with the classics, Dr. Seuss, Mercer Mayer, etc. Sometimes parents try to move their kids along too fast.

Best thing to do is go to the library or bookstore with your kid, and work with them to pick out appropriate books.

  5. hardy boys worked for mine this year

  6. The Boxcar Children  - start with the first one though  :)

  7. Just take him to the library and he can pick a couple of books, saves you having to buy them

  8. junior brown
