  1. I didn't want the epidural either.  I did accept Nubain.  Its a narcotic administered thru the IV.  I really don't think it did any good.  This time I think I'll skip that too.  An interesting article I read said that accupuncture can alleviate pain as well as an epidural.  I wanted to go that route, but my midwife told me she thinks my labor will be so short that it wouldn't be worth it. I hope she's right.

  2. I didn't want the epidural, they gave me something threw my iv that was called ventenal or fentenal.. not exactly sure I was in pain. It made me feel really dizzy at first and then when I stopped fighting it I feel asleep and only woke up when my contraction peaked. Then I went back to sleep. For me this helped, when it got closer to push though I fought going back to sleep and got myself ready to get them out.

  4. i had gas and air for both my previous labours which was really good you breathe it in normally and it takes the edge of the pain i also had a nice warm bath in the hopital which helped alot think about what helps when you have cramp hot water bottle also helped but the main thing that helped me was my birthing partner (my husband) he made me laugh a lot between contractions i think he was nervous and felt usless but it helped me so much i know all this sounds a bit new age and believe me i am not like that atall with my first baby i thought ill just take everything going but when i got to hospital my midwife was very supportive and i just took it an hour at a time try not to plan to much as it never seems to go the way you plan it,lol  good luck

  5. hi i had gas and air with my little girl - would not recomend it as it made me feel so light headed and sick and i didnt even have mega amounts of it!

i also had a pethadine injection in the top of my leg which helped. i would say have that.it obviously does not get rid of all the pain but definately helped.

i dont think an epidural is needed. many women like me dont have them and get through it fine.only thing with pethadine is that it makes the baby sleepy once it is born which you may not want - they didnt tell me this till the next day, however i didnt mind this as i had her at 11.45pm and she slept all night to give me some much needed rest :)

i suppose alot of people have different pain thresholds but if your like me then pethadine will be fine and shouldnt make you as light headed and dizzy as gas and air does.

i really didnt think giving birth hurt that much maybe due to the pethadine - much prefer giving birth to contractions :)

    good luck!

  6. i live in the uk and i had pethidine its morphine based and gas and air laughing gas,

the pethidine made me feel sick and the gas and air was great it was like being drunk over and over again

  7. how about NO pain relief, have you done birthing classes?

that helped me sooooooooooo much during the 1st and 2nd stage of labour, and very natural,

  8. In my opinion "natural childbirth isn't for everyone", if you are unable to have an epidural, try Staydol,,it really worked for my friend, but she was really high, laughing, and talking out of her head, they would not let her hold the baby right away.  I asked her if that bothered her, and she said "no", which really surprised me, come to find out, she didn't even remember the incident.  I have epidurals because you "keep your head", but when your in the transitional phase of labor, i promise, you won't care if your a little high for a while, you don't need to prove anything by "doing it natural", your a woman, giving birth, what else do I need to say.  : )
