What I need to know is that if I record a movie on a DVD this week & then want to record another next week, will it work? As most DVD's say they can record 2 - 6 hours. Has anyone ever done this? Does it need to be DVD-RW or will DVD-R be ok? Thanks in advance!

  2. Depends on how much the disc holds and how much of the disc you have used.

Also depends on if you use DVD-R and DVD+R formats which are not rewritable.  They have to be finalized to play in other players so if you finalize it you cannot add to it.  So you need to only play it in the recorder until you are finished with adding to it.  And you cannot reuse any portion that you erase.  So time used on a disc is gone even if you erase that movie.

DVD+RW and DVD-RW are rewritable.  So you can delete one movie or add another and still play it in the other players.  No finalization is needed.  These can be reused up to 100 times if not scratched.

2 hour mode looks best but 6 hour mode looks as bad a 6 hour VHS tapes maybe worse due to the artifacts in the video (blocking like effect on fast motion).

  3. You can't record over something, but you can after something.

  4. Hey DebraD...if you don't finalize your recording and still have space left for that next movie (Once you set the recording time the first time I think you have to record at the same speed) you can do it.  Using a R is fine.  You may not be able to play the DVD on other units until you do finalize.

  5. it depends how long the disc can hold and how long the movie goes on for.
