  1. yep, as a passenger, you may record a takeoff or landing. The flight attendants usually won't mind. You might land (no pun intended) on a rather strict flight attendant, but in my 100 or so recorded landings and takeoffs, not one has ever asked me to put it away.

  2. When you are flying in an airplane you are told not to use any electronic items(Cameras)

Since the Takeoff and Landing are very critical stages of the flight in case of any emergencies such as engine failure or a sudden braking for that matter they tell you to put away all that stuff because it can become a missile or airborne and fly from your hand  causing serious bodily harm to yourself or other passengers..

    It's Dangerous

  3. On a commercial flight they will tell you to turn off and stow all electronic equipment during the takeoff and landing phases.  So, no, you should not be recording during this time.  Can you? yes - but I'm sure there are consequences if you're caught

On the other hand, a plane under VFR (i.e. small general aviation aircraft) have no such restriction.  Since the pilot is flying by visual reference, the possibility of electrical interference from other equipment is not so critical.

  4. Sure....Usually Flight attendants don't have a problem with it and if they do say something say it's for a school project and they will understand.

    Edit:

Avio isn't a real or retired airline pilot. Never was. Yes you can use Video tapes on takeoff. Ever been to flight level350.com? You tube? Millions of video's of in flight and landing.

  5. Not sure what you are asking.  All pilots keep a logbook, and record all landings and takeoffs for legal certification purposes.

The object of the whole thing is to have the same number of landings in your logbook as the number of takeoffs.

EDIT:  (a) I love "thumbs downs."  It means my answer is better than yours.

    (b) You can videotape landings and takeoffs in private aircraft.  It is against the law to operate electronic devices, including video cameras, on airliners during takeoffs and landings.  You will get in really bad trouble if you defy the instructions of the cabin crew.

    Good luck.
