I have stuff that's too worn for Goodwill. I'm sure someone must recycle the fiber right?

  1. You can turn the jeans into a really cool purse (ladies will love these) and then sell them. I have seen somewhere on the web the how to instructions, in the case of them being ripped, you can cover those spots with fringe, lace, patches, etc. I hear that Platos Closet will pay big dollars for Jean purses.

  2. There is a nonprofit organization that uses old jeans to make quilts for wounded soldiers.

    They can't be stretch denim.

The organization is called Operation Quiet Comfort.

  3. There is a company in the US which shreds old bluejeans and makes them into cellulose insulation for houses.

  4. As others have suggested, some folks use them for rags. Our local Goodwill does not sell "rag bags", but the Salvation Army does. If no charity wants them, put them up on www.freecycle.org someone local will take them.

  5. You can maybe cut them up and use them for shop rags in  the garage.  That's what I do with a lot of my worn out clothes.

  6. Sure!  Ask Goodwill if they pass them along somewhere...I'll bet they do.  You can also use them to make home made paper by cutting them into TINY (less than 1/2 inch square) pieces, soaking them for a few days and then running through a food processor or blender with water.  Pour the resulting slurry into a flat basin, then dip out onto a flat piece of fine screen.  Invert onto a piece of old sheet or other fine-woven, absorbant fabric, rub the back of the screen to release the layer of wet "paper" and allow to dry.  That's the nutshell version.  Please google "paper making" or some such thing to find  more specific instructions.

  7. i've seen some really creative people transforming old jeans into sling bags

what my family do with old clothing is to use them as rags

  8. You can cut them up and use them for quites, and bags, ect.
