I was wondering if you can recycle pet food bags and if so would I have to seperate the paper part from the plastic lining?

  1. If the bag is a paper outer with a polythene inner membrane then yes you can recycle them, but you have to seperate the two materials. I do a similar thing with empty cement bags, the paper goes in with normal paper, the poly liner goes in with used carrier bags for recycling.

If the two parts are laminated together then it is not generally a recylable material.

  2. yes if they are made of paper

  3. I try to save energy, and recycling DOES use extra energy, by putting pet food bags in my burn barrel.  It helps to generate more ash that I then put in the forest for deer and other animals to roll in, to get relief from ticks.

  4. generally no.

and it's not fair to put it in the recycle bin, so that the recycler has to pay to send it to the dump.

you already pay to send the non-recycle to the dump.

put this there, and save the recycler some money.

in our town, the recycler pays the town $1,000,000 a year.

yep, the town makes a profit.

the reason is that the recycler makes a profit on the aluminum.

if you add to his expenses, then the amount that he'll pay the town will decrease.

one single individual won't make a significant difference.

but it'd be good if all would do the right thing.

    have a nice day.

  5. That's a very good question. I just put my pet food bags in the recycle bin and let the sorters at the dump make the determination.
