I am going to an auction with one of my dad's friends and I was wondering if you buy a vehicle from the auction can you register it and everything there like at a dealership or do you have to take the paperwork they give you up to DMV? I was wondering because I can't drive the vehicle up to dmv if it isn't registered right?

  1. at most auctions you have to take your paperwork to DMV to get them registered

  2. You can ask for a bill of sale from the auction. That will get you and the vehicle home.

Once you fill out the title, you take it to your DMV office and register it there. Be ready to show proof of insurance and smog, if necessary.

You do not have to take the vehicle to DMV unless it is an out of state title.
